WHEN TO PAY MORE

What triggers an upgrade

  • You need more than 10 aliases or the built-in 2FA authenticator. Both need Pass Plus.
  • You want to share a vault with more than 2 people, or share a single item. Pass Plus raises vault sharing to 10 others and adds item sharing.
  • Two adults each want Plus features. Pass Family at $59.88 a year costs less than two annual Pass Plus plans ($71.76).
  • A small team needs an admin panel and account recovery. Pass Essentials starts at 3 users: $71.64 a year at the annual rate, by our calculation.

BEFORE YOU PAY

What to check at checkout

  • Annual or monthly. The “% off” label compares the annual price with the month-to-month price. The page does not say whether the annual price is introductory, so check the renewal amount at checkout.
  • Currency. Pick your currency on the pricing page; it defaulted to euros for us.
  • The refund window. Proton lists a 30-day money-back guarantee on its pricing pages.
  • Whether you need the bundle. Only pay for Proton Unlimited if you will use Mail, VPN, or Drive as well.

Before you pay

Check the final checkout total; tax and visitor-specific offers can change it. Try autofill and confirm the recovery options before moving your vault.
