Bitwarden pricing: what you’ll pay and when to upgrade

What you’ll pay: You can use Bitwarden free on unlimited devices. Premium costs $19.80 a year for one person and Families costs $47.88 a year for up to 6 people. Bitwarden’s pricing page shows no separate first-year offer: prices are in USD, for an annual subscription, and exclude tax.

Free plan

One user, unlimited devices, and core password management. Sharing is limited to one other person: a free organization holds 2 users and up to two collections. No integrated authenticator, file attachments, emergency access, or vault health reports.

Personal and family

Premium: $19.80 a year ($1.65 a month equivalent). Families: $47.88 a year ($3.99 a month equivalent) for 6 Premium accounts with unlimited sharing and collections. Both are billed annually.

Business entry tier

Teams: $4 per user per month, billed annually. Bitwarden’s plan documentation says Teams can be billed annually or monthly; the pricing page lists only the annual rate.

WHEN TO PAY MORE

What triggers an upgrade

  • You want two-step codes filled in by the password manager, or file attachments. Both are Premium features, at $19.80 a year.
  • More than one other person needs shared logins. Free sharing covers one other user. Families covers 6 people for $47.88 a year, less than three separate Premium plans ($59.40).
  • The logins belong to a business. Teams is $4 per user per month billed annually: $240 a year for five people, by our calculation.

BEFORE YOU PAY

What to check at checkout

  • The billing period. Premium and Families are shown as annual prices; check that the checkout total matches $19.80 or $47.88 before tax.
  • Tax. Bitwarden says taxes are not included in the listed prices.
  • The Families trial. The pricing page offers a free Families trial; check its length and the first charge date at checkout.
  • Monthly Teams billing. If you want to pay monthly, confirm the monthly per-user price first: the pricing page does not show it.

Before you pay

Check the final checkout total; tax and visitor-specific offers can change it. Try autofill and confirm the recovery options before moving your vault.
