Dishwasher tablet not dissolving? Look where it ended up
Jump to instructions ↓Match the leftover tablet to the next check
Let the machine finish and cool before inspecting it. If it shows an error code, follow the manual for that code first. Do not reach inside a running dishwasher.
| After the cycle | Where to start |
|---|---|
| Dispenser still closed | Check the door clearance |
| Door open but sticky detergent inside | Start with a dry compartment |
| Tablet released but still largely intact | Check where the water can reach |
| Error code, no fill or repeated poor washing | Know when to stop |
Treat these as starting points, not proof of a particular fault. A photo of where the residue remains is more useful to a technician than “the tablet did not work.”
Check the door clearance
With the machine off, check whether a tray, pan handle or tall plate occupies the space where the dispenser lid opens. Reposition the item and confirm the lid has room to move with the racks pushed in.
The tablet must fit without forcing the lid. Samsung’s dispenser guidance also recommends cleaning detergent buildup around the dispenser with warm water. Follow the manual rather than prying at the latch.
Some Bosch machines release the tablet into a collecting tray. Bosch explains that a handle blocking that tray can interrupt dissolving even when the dispenser opens. Not every dishwasher has this arrangement. Check your rack design before assuming a missing tray is the problem.
Start with a dry compartment
If the tablet has turned to paste inside the cup, clean and dry that compartment before the next wash. Use dry hands to add a fresh tablet just before starting, and close the detergent pack between uses.
Beko’s detergent troubleshooting guidance identifies moisture in the dispenser, damp detergent and loading detergent too early as possible causes of sticking. Follow the tablet packaging for wrappers: products do not all use the same wrapping.
Do not add a second tablet to compensate for the first. Remove old residue according to the manual before starting a fresh load. Keep tablets away from children and pets while the door is open.
Check where the water can reach
With the appliance off and cool, gently check that the spray arms can turn without hitting utensils or plates. Look for food blocking the spray holes. Remove an arm only if your manual describes it as a user-cleaning task, and follow that model’s refitting instructions.
For the next test, give the dispenser and spray arms clear space. Use a programme that both the appliance manual and detergent packaging recommend for the load. Check the result after a complete cycle rather than interrupting it to look for the tablet.
Do not make a universal rule that hotter is always better. Glassware and plastics may need a different programme. If your glasses are clean but hazy, use the separate cloudy-glass check instead of repeatedly increasing heat.
Know when to stop
Bosch identifies inadequate filling and heating problems as possible reasons a tablet stays intact. An unobstructed dispenser does not rule those out.
If the machine fails to fill, shows an error, leaks or repeatedly leaves detergent after these basic checks, stop experimenting and contact support. Do not alter your water heater, open electrical panels or attempt live tests based on a general guide.
Keep a short record: programme name, tablet type, whether the dispenser opened, where residue remained and any error code. That helps separate a loading problem from a fault that needs service.
